Our printed cupcakes had an important mission in London on Tuesday reducing stress in a busy maternity ward!
It is Mental Health Awareness Week this week (14th-20th May 2018), it is hosted by the Mental Health Foundation and this year their focus was on stress. Research has shown that two thirds of us experience a mental health problem in our lifetimes, and stress is a key factor in this. Tackling stress can go a long way to tackle mental health problems such as anxiety and depression, and, in some instances, self-harm and suicide.
Our modern lives are full of stress and as we try to cram more and more into our lives, there becomes less time to practice self care. Many of us experience a lot of stress in our work lives and it is important to try to take some time to relax, talk about any problems we are having, practice mindfulness and de-stress. This can be particularly true in high pressure jobs such as those working in the NHS. We were contacted by Laura Costello from Mama, Eden and Me as she was planning to hand out 250 self-care bags to staff in the Maternity department at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital in London. She thought cupcakes would be a great addition and we agreed! So we set to work to bake 250 printed cupcakes to be donated and delivered to London. The aim of the self-care bags was to ensure the staff took some time for themselves, and we hoped the cupcakes would give them a reason to sit down for 5 minutes with a cuppa.
Each cupcake was printed with a positive edible message and the Print Cakes logo. The messages read "You Got This," "Take 5 & Breathe," "Calm Is A Super Power," "Time For A Break" They were put in bright case colours to match the branding of the Mental Health Foundation. We then packaged up all the cupcakes and delivered them to London.
We were so pleased to hear that the cupcakes and the amazing self-care bags went down well with the staff in Women’s Services. Mama, Eden & Me did an amazing job and all her hard work was certainly worth it. She has now been nominated as one of Health and Care's Top 70 Stars.
